Verdion, Europe’s specialist logistics developer and investor, has held a ground breaking ceremony in Emstek district of Cloppenburg in Germany, for its latest logistics project, a 273,200 sq ft distribution facility for Derby Cycle, the bicycle manufacturer and distributor.
In addition to members of the construction team, the event was attended by representatives of the companies involved and local dignitaries.
André Banschus of Verdion, along with Thomas Raith, CEO of Derby Cycle, Johann Wimberley the District Administrator of Cloppenburg and Michael Fischer, Mayor of Emstek, laid the symbolic foundation for the new property, planting a time capsule containing building plans, various coins, a daily newspaper and a cycling jersey.
Derby Cycle, a subsidiary of the Dutch conglomerate Pon Holdings, is Germany’s largest bicycle manufacturer and one of the leading bicycle companies in Europe. The warehouse will have a capacity for around 150,000 bicycles and reflects the successful growth of Derby Cycle in Europe. The company is the market leader in the production of e-bikes and manufacturers a number of well-known premium brands like Kalkhoff, Focus, Raleigh, Univega, Rixe and Cervélo.

The new Derby Cycle facility is being developed at Ecopark, an existing logistics complex near the E233 and A1. Verdion will compete construction of the property, which when finished will have an investment value of €15 million, by the end of Q1 2016.
